Based just outside of Gracemere, Queensland is where Matt Moffat Performance Horses calls home. A horse facility where Matt specialises in training and selling Campdraft and Challenge horses along with sale preparation.
After a very successful start to 2021 with a win in the Charlie Maher Memorial Young Guns, placing second in the Nutrien Classic and 100% clearance on his sale horses, Matt has grown to become a very sought after trainer within our industry. But it hasn’t always been this way, Matt didn’t grow up in a on a property or in a “horsey” family but always had a passion for horses. At the tender age of 11, Matt teamed up with some girls from school, borrowed a horse, had some tuition from their parents and entered his first Gymkhana. From hear, Matt got his first horse and regularly attended the local Pony Club and at the age of 14 got to have his first taste of Campdrafting. He got the beast around the course and was hooked, he had the Campdraft bug!
Well known Campdrafter, Rick Hopkins was the first person to influence Matt’s Campdrafting career providing good advice about the basics of the sport including cattle picking and horsemanship.
Matt was determined to win an ACA Juvenile title and that he did! With 3 horses of his own, Matt became the 15/16 ACA Juvenile Rider Champion and has since gone on to win back to back ACA Associate titles in 17/18 and 18/19.
When Matt finished school at the age of 17 he spent many an afternoon at Cameron Parkers understanding the methods and techniques of horse training and shaping himself into the Trainer and Competitor that he is today.
Matt emphasises in his training videos that he likes to get a good foundation on his horses in a square pen before moving into a larger Campdraft arena. Starting his horses for 6-12 month in a large square cutting pen Matt believes that this creates a great foundation and the horse learns how to control a cow without creating insecurities for your horse.
